About Kerry

holyland-chj3433I started writing daily devotions in October 1997 because I felt guilty about not opening my Bible on a daily basis. I figured if I shared my morning devotion time with others, I would be far more likely to practice what I preach. WARNING: They aren’t particularly well written. BUT they do still keep me in the Word and, if you’re a bit “discipline challenged” as I am, they will help you as well.

This picture was taken from the Cliffs of Arbel, overlooking the Sea of Galilee in Israel. (I’m not winking…the sun was directly in my eyes.) I have no doubt Jesus also stood on this cliff with the sun in his eyes, admiring the view of his hometown in the distance. I hope these daily devotions help bring Jesus a bit closer to you as well.

Hi, came to new address so email would be added for Daily Devotion. This reply spot was only place I saw to “subscribe”. Have a wonderful holiday.

  3. Dan Goetsch Says:

I thoroughly enjoy your devotions. They make for a nice, reflective break in the middle of busy workdays.

However, the new subscription process doesn’t seem to work. Please keep me on the mail list.

Hope you have less snow then we do. We have about 15 inches on the ground and another 10 in process. But it wouldn’t fully feel like Christmas for me without snow.

My best wishes for a Merry Christnas for you and your family.

    Dan

  4. Alan Court Says:

Kerry, Thanks for what you do! I’ve been following your devotions for about five years now and can tell you that my life has been blessed because of your commentary. Keep up the good work in the name of our savior Jesus Christ.

Pastor Kerry – I’m a new subscriber to your devotional emails, and I appreciate them so much! Every day that I read one, they hit me “dead on” and I learn/remember/think! Thank you so much for this ministry!

    Dear Pastor Kerry,

Thank you for your interesting, and soul searching Daily Devotionals. You truly are an inspiration to all whom are a part of Covenant Lutheran Church. I am a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois. I will be moving to the Houston, Texas area soon! I am looking forward to attending worship services on March 22nd, and somehow, after reading your Daily Devotional message each day, feel I am part of your congregation already! I just read your message on your web site…you are much younger than I envisioned..I feel you are leaving Covenant before I have the opportunity of attending church, and the pleasure of your message. I am a social worker here in our area, and will look forward to volunteering in any capacity I am able to serve. I will be living on Sagecroft Dr…close to Covenant!

Thank you again Pastor Kerry for your inspiration, and love!

  7. Carlene Says:

Pastor — Your devotions are a blessing to me, and like Christie, I often find them addressing an issue or question that’s on my mind that day. I’ve also liberally used them (with credit!) as opening devotions with the ministry groups on which I serve in my congregation. Thank you for turning your need for devotional discipline into fertile ground for the rest of us.

And – what’s this about your leaving your present congregation? Will the devotions follow you?

Bless your work in the kingdom,
    Carlene

      >Looking forward to reandig that weekly devotion for the other website. How awesome! = )Here are my two cents in response to some of your questions I love the idea of short devotions on a different topic each week. I prefer shorter over longer for a variety of reasons. Often I’m only on for a few minutes and if a post is too long, I don’t even start reandig it. I read Becoming Me because it challenges me in my walk every time I read it. You have great insights, and I love your style of writing. (You’re quite gifted!)Thanks for giving us the chance to offer input. = ) Blessings,Tracy

    Pastor Kerry,

I have enjoyed your devotionals for years and have shared them at staff meetings here at the church. A friend was coming down to Houston next week so I mentioned that you had a church down there and upon looking you up the address discovered that you will be moving on from Covenant.

I wish you the best wherever the Lord calls you!

    Peace,
    Terri

    Dear Pastor Kerry,

I have enjoyed your Daily Devotions in the past and wondered where you went.

I noticed that you stated that one of your goals is to “make more Lutherans.” I have attended churches of three different denominations for many years in my 62 years. I have always thought our goal is to “make more Christians.”

God Bless you as you work to do that.

I am SO grateful to you for your willingness, commitment and dedication in preparing them. Thank you! Merry Christmas, Blessings and Joy to You and Yours!!

    Shalom,
    Kathy

    Dear Pastor Kerry,

I am new to the Lutheran Church (I was in another denomination for 25 years) and recently found your daily devotional on the ECLA website. I have always struggled with reading the Bible on a daily basis. I have found your devotional helpful with staying connected to the Bible. Thank you for this ministry.

  19. cynthia forde Says:

    Kerry,

This is a message from a fan… sitting across the aisle from me at Zorba’s restaurant in Chapin, SC. “Please tell Pastor Kerry that I am so grateful for his messages; I have saved everyone of them as guideposts for my life.” She hopes to drive to Houston JUST TO MEET YOU.

The daughter of the author of this message wore a tee shirt, “Lutheran Chick” which invoked a query from me as to which “brand” of Lutheran.

Hope all is well. Cynthia Forde… doing research in SC the month o fMarch.

    Hi Kerry,

Hope you remember me from the early days of Covenant. We are in Houston for a few days and I was trying to find you on the Covenant site and eventually found you here. I just wanted to say “Hi” and thanks for helping me discern my call to ministry. After we moved to Richmond, I started an inner city ministry(www.embracerichmond.org) and just wrote my first book (www.wendymccaig.com). Would love to reconnect and here more about what you have been up to all these years.

    Blessings, Wendy McCaig

This site seems to have archives of Kerry Nelson’s devotionals going back to December 2008. Are older archives available? I am particularly interested in the daily devotionals from August 27-31, 2007.

I’ve enjoyed your devotions for many years now, and I’m wondering, do you have them archived by Scripture reference? I wanted to view your thoughts on Ecc. 3: 1-8 if you have done a devotion on this reference in the past. Thank you so much!
